Behind the Scenes: Our Business Development Manager, Orestis!

May 08, 2022

1. Who is Orestis? Describe yourself to those who might not know you.

I’ve lived across a few different countries and continents and those experiences and opportunities have largely shaped my perspective. I’m grateful to have encountered incredible people, cultures and cuisines and been able to explore local environments as well. In general, I value being polite and kind, especially when it comes to communicating with others.

2. What’s something not many people know about you?

I’m always the person who loves to start a sentence with “fun fact” or even more commonly and to the frustration of those around me “that word originally comes from Greek”!

3. How long have you been with Parcel Perform?

I’ve been with Parcel Perform for around two and a half years, approaching three soon.

4. Describe your transition from working in the Singapore office to the New York office?

Moving to the US has been an interesting learning curve for me. Handling workflows across teams and in different time zones as well as the new and different variables has made for a shift in my role. What made the transition easier, however, is that I’ve been lucky to have joined an incredible team here in New York, as well as received continuous support from our other global teams.

5. What does your typical day in the New York office look like?

Being a part of growing our team in the US requires constant communication with both our Berlin and Singapore offices. This means that I usually start my day by going through various communication channels such as Slack and Email to stay up to date with ongoing work streams and provide feedback where necessary. Once that is done and I am all up to date, I will create my daily to-do list that incorporates the impact, urgency and effort required per task on the list.

Working in Business Development naturally means that I must challenge and always stay on top of our sales strategy & processes. This includes designing improved training programs for new hires and creating an onboarding experience to help them build the necessary expertise as fast as possible. Similarly, I work closely with our Sales Operations team towards reducing manual efforts of our Sales Development Reps and Account Executives by empowering them with tools, resources and frameworks.

6. What opportunities do you foresee for Parcel Perform in the US market?

The US is a high growth environment and end-consumers have high expectations and requirements from their e-commerce retailers in a post pandemic world. Convenience, excellent service and personalized communication with each buyer are key here. Parcel Perform's product is flexible and able to adapt to the evolving demands of the industry. Moreover, our products are sophisticated and customizable and we directly elevate delivery experiences for brands, marketplaces and e-commerce businesses.

7. What do you look forward to the most about the US market?

The US is home to many companies that I personally resonate with. Having the opportunity to drive real value to these businesses through Parcel Perform’s services is something that drives me in my job. I’m also eager to learn more about the similarities and differences in the SaaS sales processes between the US, EU and South-East Asia to better understand how we can proposition our product offering for potential clients in the US.

8. What are the team dynamics like in the US office?

Over the last 3-4 weeks, we’ve managed to start building an open, supportive and safe environment for people to share their thoughts, which has led to many fruitful discussions, lots of ideas being generated and high productivity levels. As a team, we have clear ownership which allows us to be fast and effective, whilst having the same crystal-clear end goal in mind.

On a more “informal” note, I love the fact that we can all grab lunch together (similar to all our offices across Vietnam, Singapore and Germany), explore new places to eat across the city and even go for the occasional happy hour!

9. What can people expect from working with Parcel Perform?

Above all, Parcel Perform provides a great working environment. The people at Parcel Perform are by far its greatest asset. I consider myself lucky to work alongside them and with many of whom I’ve developed close friendships outside of work.

Whilst we do our best to ensure you are surrounded by vibrant people and various team activities, work expectations are also high. Parcel Perform has been on a profound growth trajectory over the last one and a half years with no immediate signs of stopping. This gives any teammate at Parcel Perform the opportunity to embrace change, deliver to the best of their capabilities and always keep our customers in focus.

10. How will you leverage the current market conditions in the US to support Parcel Perform’s objectives/goals?

With people slowly returning to their offices, physical events, networking opportunities and face-to-face interactions becoming the norm once more (happy days!), this represents a fantastic opportunity for us to grow our network, market presence and customer base and comes at an opportunistic time for us.

12. Anything fun about working in NYC that you would like to talk about?

I’ve discovered that I’m a huge fan of live jazz clubs, so I look forward to exploring more of these in the city together with the team. The foodie scene in NYC is out of this world. I recently went to a weekly open-air food market (Smorgasburg for those familiar) and it was just incredible. My lunch plans are pretty much sorted for most Sundays from here on.

13. What is a motto/mantra you live by?

Practice kindness to those around you, every day. You often find that you’ll receive 10x that in return.
