European Logistics News: Key Developments from DACHSER, DSV, and Others

The ecommerce logistics industry in Europe continues to evolve as leading logistics providers introduce innovations and expand their operations. Companies like DACHSER, DSV, CEVA Logistics, Maersk, and Kuehne+Nagel are driving progress with initiatives focused on sustainability, efficiency, and infrastructure growth. As customer expectations rise and global supply chains grow more complex, these developments reflect a strong push toward smarter, greener, and more resilient logistics services across the region.

DACHSER Wins German Packaging Award in the Logistics & Material Flow Category

DACHSER has received the German Packaging Award 2025 in the Logistics & Material Flow category from the German Packaging Institute (Deutsches Verpackungsinstitut e. V.) for their "Retail Box." In collaboration with Wanzl, Logistikbude, and Deutsche Telekom, the logistics service provider created an innovative reusable system for groupage logistics suited for retail deliveries in the fashion, cosmetics, and electronics industries.

"We are delighted with the recognition for our new development in groupage logistics," says Stefan Hohm, DACHSER's Chief Advancement Officer. "We invest in innovation when it adds clear value to customers and can be used as standard across the entire logistics network," says Stefan Hohm, Chief Development Officer (CDO) at DACHSER. "The Retail Box meets both of these criteria. It is a new reusable system for items that previously could not benefit from the procedures and benefits of a groupage network, or could only do so with throwaway transport packaging."

DSV Breaks Ground on New 900,000-square-foot Facility

DSV recently celebrated the groundbreaking of its new plant in Laredo, Texas. Attendees included DSV team members, local politicians, and Evans General Contractors, the facility's developer. This property strengthens DSV's presence at the US-Mexico border and demonstrates its commitment to cross-border logistics and warehousing solutions.

The almost 900,000-square-foot high-tech complex marks a relocation and extension of DSV Laredo's current activities, with Contract Logistics adding to the hub's storage and transportation capabilities throughout the United States and into Mexico. It will benefit many businesses, including consumer items, technology, and industrial equipment. The warehouse design will include modern safety and security systems to protect client valuables.

"Today marks a milestone in our commitment to driving cross-border commerce and strengthening supply chain reliability to our customers," stated President Josh Summers of DSV North America. "This new warehouse is a strategic investment in the region with growth opportunities, and we're proud to be part of the community."

CEVA Logistics and Avolta Launch Sustainable Road Transport Model

CEVA Logistics and Avolta, a prominent worldwide travel retail and F&B company, have established a new sustainable transportation model pilot using three Duo Trailer vehicles powered by renewable hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO). The technology is now used throughout Spain's busiest transit corridor connecting Barcelona and Madrid. It is estimated to eliminate up to 520 tons of CO₂ and 180 kilos of nitrogen oxide emissions annually—equivalent to eliminating 440 trucks from the road.

The Duo Trailers are freight transport vehicles with a tractor unit hauling two semi-trailers. This configuration provides for a load capacity of up to 70 tons each trip, resulting in much lower emissions than employing many vehicles. Furthermore, the use of HVO—a sustainable fuel made from vegetable oil or recycled fats processed with hydrogen rather than methanol—helps reduce total emissions.

"This initiative allows us to assess the impact of large-scale implementations of sustainable solutions. It indicates that it is feasible to drastically reduce road transport's carbon footprint, paving the way for a more efficient, responsible, and creative model for the whole industry," says Jaume Capdevila, Head of Ground & Rail at CEVA Logistics.

Maersk Launches Integrated Packing and Cold Storage Hub

Maersk officially unveiled its new packaging and cold chain logistics hub in Olmos, Peru, as a strategic step to help the country's thriving agro-export sector. As Peru's fresh fruit exports continue to expand due to worldwide demand, the new facility will ensure speed and freshness from farm to port.

Adjacent to large plantations, the facility incorporates important logistical activities such as processing, cold storage, and depot warehousing to provide continuous connectivity to Maersk's worldwide end-to-end supply chain network. The center also offers value-added services such as container depot operations, inland refrigerated transport, and customs clearance at the origin, delivering a seamless end-to-end experience for clients.

"The Olmos Packing and Cold Storage Centre is more than just a logistical investment; it is a strategic commitment to the long-term future of northern Peru's agro-export economy." Maersk's Managing Director for the West Coast of South America, Dean Rodin, also stated that establishing operations in Olmos enables local producers to compete globally with the speed and quality required by today's markets.

Kuehne+Nagel Extends Its Collaboration with Airbus

Kuehne+Nagel deepens its relationship with Airbus by renewing an agreement for the logistics of manufacturing and storage facilities throughout Spain. In addition, for the first time, the cooperation will include helicopter maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) activities.

The operations include in-plant logistics, inter-site transportation services, warehouse-to-line deliveries, supply fulfillment center operations, and spare parts management. Kuehne+Nagel has about 900 personnel spread over 16 locations in Albacete, Cádiz, Madrid, Sevilla, Toledo, and Zaragoza.

To sum up, these recent moves by top logistics providers highlight the dynamic growth of the ecommerce logistics industry across Europe. With a focus on sustainability, innovation, and strategic infrastructure, companies like DACHSER, DSV, CEVA Logistics, Maersk, and Kuehne+Nagel are setting new service and operational excellence standards.
