FedEx Plans to Consolidate Its Operating Companies into One Unified Organization
Oct 11, 2023
Earlier this year, FedEx Corporation unveiled plans to consolidate its operating companies into one unified organization. The announcement was made during the company's DRIVE Investor Event, where FedEx emphasized its commitment to creating a more streamlined and integrated organizational structure.
This consolidation initiative, slated for full implementation by June 2024, will see the integration of FedEx Express, FedEx Ground, FedEx Services, and other operating entities into a unified Federal Express Corporation. The move will result in a single entity operating under the renowned FedEx brand. Notably, FedEx Freight will continue to provide less-than-truckload freight transportation services independently within Federal Express Corporation.
"This organizational evolution reflects how we represent ourselves in the marketplace – focused on flexibility, efficiency, and intelligence. As one FedEx team, we are well positioned to execute on our mission to help customers compete and win with the world's smartest logistics network," expressed Raj Subramaniam, President, and CEO of FedEx Corporation.
The consolidation is a key part of FedEx's broader DRIVE transformation, which includes Network 2.0, a multi-year initiative aimed at enhancing the efficiency of FedEx's package pickup, transport, and delivery operations in the United States and Canada. The streamlined structure will also provide a more concentrated focus on the air network and international volume, as well as optimize ground operations through a combination of FedEx employees and contracted service providers.
Additional announcements from the DRIVE Investor Event included updates on the progress of DRIVE initiatives, which are expected to generate $4.0 billion in permanent cost reductions by fiscal 2025. These cost reductions are projected to break down as follows: $1.2 billion in Surface Network, $1.3 billion in Air Network & International, and $1.5 billion in General & Administrative areas. Additionally, the implementation of Network 2.0 is expected to yield an incremental $2 billion in savings by fiscal 2027.
