U.S. Postal Service Announces Refined Service Standards and Cost Reductions

The US Postal Service recently issued updated service standards for several market-dominant services. This includes changes to service standards for First-Class Mail, Marketing Mail, Periodicals, and Package Services (bound printed matter, media mail, and library mail).

The adjustments will keep service at current levels for the majority of volume while upgrading standards for more market-dominant volume that is being lowered. Moreover, the modifications will improve service dependability across the country while retaining the current five-day service standard day range for First-Class Mail, but the day ranges for end-to-end Marketing Mail, Periodicals, and Package Services will be reduced. Similar improvements will be made to the Postal Service's competitive offerings.

"By implementing the new standards and the operational initiatives to which they are aligned, we will be better able to achieve the goals of our modernization plans and create a high-performing, financially sustainable organization, which is necessary to achieve the statutory policies and objectives established for the Postal Service by law," the Postmaster General, Louis DeJoy, stated.

The gradual switch to electric transportation at the DHL division is part of the company's sustainability strategy. Deutsche Post and DHL are Germany's electric mobility pioneers, with a combined fleet of 32,400 electric vehicles for mail and parcel delivery. Over 50% of delivery routes in the Post & Parcel Germany division have already been changed to electric drive, and the transformation of the fleet for the delivery of heavy and bulky goods is already underway.

Purolator Acquires Livingston International

The integrated freight, package, and logistics provider, which is 91% owned by Canada Post, stated that the merger was made in response to governments' increasing scrutiny of international supply chains, including tariffs, and to create a one-stop shop for transportation and compliance. Purolator International, the freight forwarding division, is headquartered in Jericho, New York.
