Behind the Scenes: Our FE Chapter Lead, Manh!
1. In your own words, who is Manh?
With my background in Computer Science, my friends and I started our first software company in 2015. We then expanded our network and our capabilities to create a Sales Management Product System in 2017. At the core I am a problem-solver who is optimistic about finding my passion in life. At the end of the day- I know that true happiness lies in my passion and I am eager to discover it in the years to come.
2. What does a typical day look like for you at Parcel Perform and what are you currently working on?
Simply put, my duty is to make the technology we use easier for everyone. I work on reducing the bugs in our software and improving it so that our customers can use it without any struggle. At the same time, our engineers can better improve it with the code to showcase the features we have and streamline logistics solutions for most businesses globally.
In my day to day work I listen to the pain-points of my team. Problem solving and finding smarter solutions is my vision. I’m happy to improve the quality of work for my team by being the problem-solver that the tech team in Vietnam needs!
I'm currently working on toolchains to create a Design System. Creating a better functioning UI and a better looking UX is the key to boosting our development process continually. I want to help developers and designers speak the same language so that they can work together as a team to achieve the best for our software.
3. What advice do you have for other Lead Software Engineers?
As a leader, you have to get to know the people in your team. Learning about my PP Teammates has been the number one guide for me to becoming a strong leader.
The second advice I have is that being an engineer is naturally full of problems so embrace discomfort. Problems are part of the process. As a leader you have to lead the way to problem-solve. So do not let problems guide your way but rather solutions.
The last thing is to inspire greatness. When you lead a team, they are volunteering not just their minds but their hearts as well. Great work comes from the most inspired people and it is up to us as leaders to tap into the talents of our teams and unleash their true potential so that they can be recognized for their achievements. Ultimately, a leader should inspire a team; great teams come from great leaders.
4. As an engineer, what made you want to work with Parcel Perform?
Over the years as an entrepreneur I realised that I needed to expand my experience and challenge myself to become a stronger visionary. I made a personal decision to exit my own company to gain that much needed industry experience. When I was working in positions at other companies, I realised I was still missing the role of being an engineer. Fighting problems and coming up with solutions and the camaraderie that develops from that is something I can connect with on a personal and professional level.
At Parcel Perform I can challenge myself every day to become a better engineer. These new challenges inspire me to work even harder and help me not get bored easily! Working as a team to disrupt these challenges together is by far the best experience! Not just that but the culture at Parcel Perform is one of teamwork and care even outside the workplace. I feel supported by my colleagues who have brought much happiness to my life.
5. What is your favourite thing about working as a FE Chapter Lead at Parcel Perform?
I cannot express how grateful I am to be supported by a team of not just competent but trustworthy colleagues. It is the teamwork and the synergy that comes with that helps turn many ideas into a reality. I am encouraged by my team to be a better leader so that we can keep growing and expanding the Vietnam tech team!
6. What is one thing that most people don't know about you?
I love to make cookies for my colleagues. Once Vietnam is able to overcome this pandemic I will have the chance to do that!
7. What is the most important thing you've learned at Parcel Perform? OR What excites you most about Parcel Perform?
Parcel Perform has taught me that if you love your job that passion you have will help mould you as a person and make you a better leader. I used to be an aggressive and harsh leader in the past. Love is the most important thing that leads us to happiness.
The one thing that sets Parcel Perform apart from other companies is that everyone cares about each other in a positive and genuine way - even the newcomers! From day one I have felt like a PP Teammate as everyone has embraced me as one of them too.
8. Can you share a motto or a persona mantra to end off?
"Happiness is achieved when you stop waiting for it to happen, and take steps to make it happen."
One way I have taken steps towards happiness lies in making passion my driving force in life. Often, people struggle to find their passion in life. One way to find yours is to follow a path and excel in wherever that path brings you. Right now I’ve decided to choose the path of being an engineer. While it is not yet my passion I know I love the feeling of getting better at it every day! I am confident that my true “passion” lies at the end of the path of my engineering career.
